New To Acupuncture?

New to acupuncture? You probably have a few questions.

How will it feel?

If visions of Western-style hypodermic needles are dancing in your head, relax. Acupuncture needles are much smaller and thinner than hollow-body hypodermic needles. I use single-use disposable steel needles that are about as thick as a strand of human hair.

As a practitioner, I don’t subscribe to a “no pain, no gain” philosophy. I believe that gentleness can be effective and that acupuncture should feel good. A typical session incorporates Shiatsu massage and other modalities that promote therapeutic relaxation.

Where are you located?

My practice is part of Central Family Practice, Austin’s oldest integrative health clinic. We are located at 720 W. 34th Street in suite 105. Click here for more location info.

What’s going to happen when I get there?

First-time patients should download the new patient paperwork online or arrive 15 minutes early to complete the forms in our office.

Our first meeting will begin with an intake evaluation. We will discuss your health history and current concerns, and I will design an individualized treatment plan that includes acupuncture, bodywork, lifestyle changes and customized herbal prescriptions.

What if I need herbs?

I specialize in creating custom herbal formulas tailored to my patient’s needs. Herbs may be prescribed in pill, powder, raw herb, or tincture form, depending on your needs and preference. For your convenience, Central Family Practice has a complete herbal pharmacy.

What should I wear?

It’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing.
